State Department Revokes Over 250K Visas in Immigration Crackdown
The US State Department has revoked over 250,000 visas since President Donald Trump took office as part of an effort to crack down on unlawful immigration and increase vetting of visitors.
The revocations were for a variety of violations, including visa holders who committed crimes, called for violence against Americans, defrauded citizens, or abused the immigration system. The State Department cited 2,300 cases related to birth tourism, where pregnant foreign nationals traveled to the US specifically to give birth and have their child automatically receive citizenship.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said that every visa decision is a national security decision, and through continuous vetting, they are identifying and removing those who commit crimes or abuse the system. He noted that a US visa is a privilege, not a right, and if you violate its terms, you will lose it.
