The stock market took a slight step back on August 10 as oil prices surged and investors grew increasingly concerned about inflation. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) slipped 0.06% to 7,753, hovering near record territory but unable to break through it. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) fell by a more significant margin of 0.32% to 26,605 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) pulled back from its all-time high by finishing 0.11% lower at 53,976.

Gold prices rose by 1.14% to $4,390.85 as the market closed in the US, but the 10-Year Treasury yield gained only a minor 0.06% to 4.71%. In terms of sector performance, energy stocks led the way, while technology and real estate lags dragged down the overall market.

Several major companies saw significant moves on August 10. Intel Corporation's shares plummeted after announcing a dilutive $15 billion stock offering to fund AI and manufacturing activities. On the other hand, Meta Platforms, Inc.'s stocks rose by 0.48% as investors reacted to Mark Zuckerberg's AI manifesto and the debut of its Muse Glimmer model.

Exxon Mobil Corporation saw its stock rise in line with climbing crude oil prices, while Archer Aviation soared by a whopping 12% on news that it would acquire three Boeing subsidiaries and that Boeing would take a stake in the firm. The market's performance was also influenced by geopolitical tensions, as investors digested last week's hopes for an imminent deal that have now started to fade.
