Streaming Giants Unite Against Regulatory Threats
The streaming industry has formed a new lobbying group in Washington to represent its interests as one company. The Streaming Access and Choice Alliance (SACA) is led by TechNet, a trade association that promotes American innovation.
Amazon, Netflix, and YouTube are the founding corporate members of SACA, which aims to promote consumer flexibility and advocate for policies that support innovation in the industry.
The group's formation comes amid an ongoing regulatory struggle over sports broadcasting rights. The Justice Department is investigating NFL broadcasting practices, while the FCC has sought public comment on developments in the sports-broadcasting marketplace.
SACA's mission is to defend a shared structural interest: the capacity to bid for and purchase sports rights without new regulatory friction. A weaker or misinterpreted Sports Broadcasting Act could alter how leagues package and sell rights, potentially undermining the economics of streaming sports.
