Surface Pro and Laptop Take Aim at MacBook Air with New Fanless Designs

Microsoft has announced new Surface Pro and Laptop models featuring the Snapdragon X2 Plus processor. These devices are designed to challenge Apple's MacBook Air, which has long been the benchmark for thin, light, and silent computing.

The Surface Pro and Laptop lack active cooling fans, instead using dense cooling pipes to manage heat. This design allows them to perform heavy tasks without thermal throttling or a scorched chassis. In tests, these devices were able to run multiple resource-intensive applications simultaneously without any noticeable lag or heat buildup.

The X2 Plus architecture provides up to 60% faster graphics rendering and an 80 TOPS NPU handling on-device AI tasks. The Surface Pro and Laptop also feature upgraded 500-nit PixelSense displays, tactile keyboards, and a range of colors for their aluminum shells.
