Teams Bolsters Security with Customizable File Extension Blocking

Microsoft Teams is expanding its security features to give administrators more control over file extensions associated with malware and threats. The update, part of Weaponizable File Protection, will allow admins to customize which file types are blocked in Teams to align with their organization's specific security requirements.

The new feature is currently in development and is expected to roll out in November 2026. Administrators will be able to choose from a list of blocked file extensions or use the Microsoft-recommended default list, giving them more flexibility in tailoring file protection policies.

This added control will help organizations maintain a secure collaboration environment while allowing for some customization to meet their unique needs. The feature is currently in development and will start rolling out across Android, desktop, iOS, macOS, and web platforms worldwide.
