A Spring High School student has tragically lost their life after being hit by a pickup truck while attempting to cross North Freeway, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon near Louetta Road on I-45. In a statement on Saturday, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that the 16-year-old student was pronounced dead at the hospital after being rushed by first responders to HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest.

According to deputies, two teenagers were at Home Depot and decided to cross the freeway on foot. While one teen stopped as a pickup truck approached, the other did not, resulting in a critical collision. The driver attempted to slow down and avoid hitting the student, staying at the scene and cooperating with the investigation.
