Ternus' Apple Overhaul Sparks 2% Stock Dip Amid Ecosystem Worries
Apple's stock plummeted nearly 2% on Tuesday as investors digested reports of potential management and process changes under new CEO John Ternus. The restructuring effort, aimed at making Apple more engineering-focused and efficient, may involve reducing middle management layers and altering the company's traditional product-launch cycles.
Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook on September 1, is reportedly weighing measures to streamline Apple's operations. This includes cutting engineering program manager positions, with around half a dozen directors affected so far. The roles, responsible for managing timelines and coordinating work between teams, will be given the opportunity to find new positions within the company before leaving.
Bank of America remains bullish on Apple, reiterating its Buy rating despite concerns surrounding the impact of artificial intelligence on consumer behavior. Analyst Wamsi Mohan notes that Apple's large installed base, user trust, and privacy-focused technology can help mitigate emerging competitive pressure from AI agents like Meta's Muse.
