Apple's CEO transition is underway as John Ternus takes over from Tim Cook on September 1st. Ternus, a 25-year Apple veteran and head of hardware engineering, will become the company's first new CEO in 15 years.

Cook will assume the role of executive chairman of the board after unanimously being approved by the board in April. This planned handoff is a common practice among large tech firms, where they promote from within.

The stock market has been watching Apple's performance closely as its market cap approaches $4.6 trillion, over 30% above last year's levels and around 9% off its all-time high.
