Ternus Takes the Helm as Cook Steps Down Amid AI Challenges
After a 15-year tenure that transformed Apple into a $4.5 trillion behemoth, Tim Cook is stepping down as CEO and will hand over the reins to John Ternus, the company's hardware chief. Under Cook's leadership, Apple's annual sales rose from $108 billion to $416 billion, with profits growing more than fourfold to $112 billion.
Cook's focus on supply chain efficiency and creating a 'values-driven' culture within Apple helped establish consumer brand loyalty and dependency, generating trillions of dollars in revenue. However, critics have long accused Apple of losing its innovation edge during Cook's tenure, particularly in the AI race.
Ternus will face significant challenges, including demonstrating that AI is more than an app on the iPhone or Siri. Apple needs to continue removing manufacturing from China without pressuring margins, a task made more complicated by rising Sino-US tensions and supply-chain disruptions.
