Terracotta Bedroom Makeover Tips: A Homeowner's Lessons Learned
A two-year-old terracotta bedroom makeover project has yielded valuable lessons for homeowners and interior designers alike. The room, which spans approximately 500 square feet, was previously painted in a bland rental-white color.
The transformation began with the selection of the perfect clay-based paint color, Cavern Clay by Sherwin-Williams (SW 7701), which boasts an LRV of 24 and provides a warm, inviting atmosphere without tipping into brown. For smaller or north-facing rooms, Baked Clay (SW 6340) is recommended due to its LRV of 26 and softer appearance in flat daylight.
A crucial decision was made not to paint only one accent wall but to commit to painting all four walls with the chosen mid-clay color, which creates a cozy, wrapped feeling. Cream trim, used at around 30% of the room, helps prevent the space from becoming heavy.
