Thai Market Edges Up Amid Geopolitical and Bond Yield Concerns
The SET Index in Thailand ended the day at 1,576.45 points, gaining 4.83 points or 0.31%, with a total trading value of THB 55.04 billion. Despite weaker-than-expected U.S. nonfarm payrolls data, the Thai stock market showed a modest rise. However, elevated bond yields continued to dampen market sentiment, according to analysts.
Analysts noted that geopolitical tensions, fluctuating oil prices, and supply-side pressures on bonds were pushing Treasury yields higher. These factors are expected to maintain upward pressure on yields in the near term.
Looking ahead, analysts predict that the Thai market may experience a rebound, but it is likely to be a consolidatory move due to the absence of new catalysts. The market's direction will largely depend on global economic indicators and domestic developments.
Separately, Thailand's Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa has attracted 12,010 high-potential foreigners over four years, contributing approximately $1.28 billion to the economy. The visa program is designed to draw in executives and skilled professionals, boosting purchasing power and stimulating economic activity.
