Thirty Soda Flavors That Failed to Catch On

Coca-Cola and PepsiCo have been constantly experimenting with new flavors to attract consumers. However, not all of their creations have been successful.

The two companies have discontinued over thirty sodas that were once popular on store shelves. These include Crystal Pepsi, a clear cola launched in the early 1990s; New Coke, a reformulated version of Coca-Cola's classic formula introduced in 1985; and Surge, a neon-green citrus soda released by Coca-Cola in the mid-1990s.

Other notable failures include OK Soda, which was marketed with an ironic and ambiguous campaign; Josta, a guarana berry-flavored soda that was one of the first mainstream American sodas to market itself as an energy booster; and Pepsi Blue, a bright blue-colored drink with a berry-cola flavor that failed to attract a loyal customer base.

The reasons for these failures vary. Some, like Crystal Pepsi, were ahead of their time and didn't resonate with consumers. Others, like New Coke, sparked public backlash after reformulating the classic formula.
