TikTok Launches AI Shopping Assistant and One-Click Checkout
TikTok has introduced an AI-powered shopping assistant and a new one-click checkout feature, allowing users to make purchases directly within the app. The Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI agent designed to help users discover and buy products, providing real-time guidance on details like shipping, sizing, and availability. The assistant can also remember user preferences and needs, making the shopping experience more personalized.
The new checkout feature enables users to buy products from brands with a single click while browsing the For You feed, TikTok's main personalized video feed. This integration aims to keep the entire shopping journey within the platform, from product discovery to payment. By combining the AI shopping assistant with direct checkout, TikTok is transforming its video feed into a comprehensive shopping destination.
The move positions TikTok to compete with external AI tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT for shopping-related searches. The features are being developed in partnership with companies such as Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe. This expansion builds on TikTok Shop, the company's existing in-app marketplace, which has been central to its e-commerce strategy since its US launch in September 2023.
According to TikTok's latest Economic Impact Report, the platform contributed $81 billion to the US economy, with 54 million Americans purchasing products after watching TikTok videos. Research firm eMarketer estimates that TikTok Shop generated around $15.8 billion in US sales in 2025, accounting for roughly 18% of all US social commerce. The new features could further solidify TikTok's role in product discovery and purchase completion within the same app.
