Tim Cook Steps Down as Apple CEO After 15 Years at Helm
Apple's long-time CEO Tim Cook is stepping down after more than 15 years at the helm, marking one of the company's most significant leadership transitions in recent history. His tenure saw Apple grow into one of the world's most valuable technology companies, with its market capitalization surging from $350 billion in 2011 to around $4.67 trillion today.
Cook will be succeeded by John Ternus, Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. While Cook is leaving his CEO role, he will remain involved with the company as executive chairman, focusing on areas such as government and regulatory relations.
During his tenure, Cook's compensation was shaped significantly by stock awards, which made up a large portion of his package. In 2025, his total compensation stood at approximately $74.3 million, with his base salary being $3 million and stock awards valued at $57.5 million. He also received $12 million in non-equity incentives and $1.76 million in other compensation.
Cook's net worth is estimated to be around $83.8 million, which is significantly smaller compared to some of the world's wealthiest technology founders and business owners.
