Tomorrowland's Future in Jeopardy as Disneyland Plans Major Overhaul

Disneyland's Tomorrowland is set for a major overhaul, but it's unclear what will become of the beloved attractions within. The land has been closed off to visitors since Disney announced plans to reimagine it with new attractions and experiences. Emily 'Emo' O'Brien, who led the Tomorrowland and Space Mountain project at Tokyo Disneyland, hinted that not all existing rides are safe from replacement or removal.

The largest parcel of land available for new projects is the Carousel Building and adjacent submarine lagoon and Autopia. However, with the former Carousel of Progress building in disuse, it's likely to be demolished soon, making way for a new structure. The current Autopia track may also face replacement or closure due to state emission regulations.

The redevelopment won't happen quickly, as Disney needs time to design, debate, and budget the project. It will take place in phases over several years. In the meantime, fans can expect some surprises and changes to existing attractions. Walt Disney himself would likely be surprised by Tomorrowland's current state, it was never meant to become a nostalgic relic of the past.
