Trachtenberg's Sleeping Beauty Reboot Enters Development
Dan Trachtenberg, director of films like '10 Cloverfield Lane' and 'Preacher', has been attached to an untitled Disney movie inspired by the classic fairy tale 'Sleeping Beauty'. The project is still in early development, but Deadline reports that Trachtenberg and writer Rayna McClendon have developed the story idea. Screenwriters Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf are working on the screenplay, with an original approach rather than a scene-for-scene remake.
The studio has not confirmed any details about the project, including the title, cast, production start date, or release date. However, Deadline reports that Trachtenberg and his producing partner Ben Rosenblatt will produce alongside Michelle Rejwan. Disney executive vice president of production Jessica Virtue and creative executive Alina Mota are overseeing the project under Disney Live Action president Daria Cercek.
The new take on 'Sleeping Beauty' is not a remake of the 1959 animated film, but rather an original story inspired by it. The plot details remain under wraps, and there is no connection to the two 'Maleficent' movies starring Angelina Jolie. Walt Disney Animation Studios described its 1959 version as the story of Princess Aurora, whom Maleficent curses at birth, leading her into an enchanted sleep on her 16th birthday.
