Trump Administration Fills Key FDA Leadership Roles Permanently
The Trump administration has filled four key leadership roles at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) permanently, following the nomination of Heidi Overton to lead the agency. The new appointees will oversee the regulation of drugs, vaccines, tobacco products, and technology innovation.
Michael Davis, a psychiatrist, will direct the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, while former Merck official Karim Mikhail takes over as director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research. Bret Koplow, an attorney who has been at the FDA since 2011, will become director of the Center for Tobacco Products.
Jared Seehafer, an entrepreneur and executive who founded a life science software company, was appointed as the FDA's first deputy commissioner for technology and artificial intelligence. This newly created position highlights the administration's commitment to accelerating AI innovation and ensuring an effective regulatory framework for emerging technologies.
