Trump Administration Revokes Over 250,000 US Visas Amid Visa Abuse Crackdown
The Trump administration has revoked over 250,000 US visas since President Donald Trump took office. According to State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the cancellations cover cases involving alleged visa violations, criminal activity, fraud, abuse of the immigration system, and national-security concerns.
The figure was disclosed in an interview with Fox News, where Pigott described it as a 'major milestone' in the expanded visa-vetting effort. The State Department is using continuous vetting to identify visa holders whose conduct could make them ineligible to retain their visas.
Approximately 2,300 of the revoked visas were linked to birth tourism, which refers to traveling to the US primarily to give birth and obtain US citizenship for the child. The practice has been explicitly stated as not permissible on a visitor visa since January 2020, when the State Department introduced a specific policy.
The Trump administration has also been preparing to revoke B1 and B2 business and tourist visas held by up to 200,000 foreign nationals who subsequently applied for asylum. This move is part of an effort to prevent the misuse of nonimmigrant visas for birth tourism.
