Trump's Insurer-Bashing Rhetoric Collides with Reality at Kennedy Summit
President Trump has been vocal in his criticism of health insurers, labeling them 'BIG, BAD Insurance Companies' and vowing to slash their profits. However, a recent summit held by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s Make America Healthy Again movement (MAHA) reveals that some of the same companies are now being given a seat at the table.
The MAHA summit, which took place on September 29, was sponsored in part by major health insurers such as UnitedHealth and Elevance. The event featured executives from these companies alongside AHIP's chief executive, Mike Tuffin, who also sits on a panel at the summit. Tuffin's industry group has been at the forefront of lobbying efforts against Trump's proposed changes to healthcare.
The contradiction between Trump's rhetoric and the reality of his administration's actions is stark. Despite promising to 'stop all payments to big insurance' in a recent statement, his administration recently finalized a significant increase in Medicare Advantage payments worth over $13 billion.
