Trump's 'Lake America' Order Sparks Controversy Between US and Canada

US President Donald Trump has issued an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America', prompting tech giants Apple and Alphabet (Google) to make changes to their mapping services. In response, Apple updated its Apple Maps app on Tuesday, renaming the lake for US users.

The move follows a similar change by Google late Saturday, which also renamed the lake as 'Lake America' for US users.

However, it's worth noting that Canada will continue to refer to the lake as Lake Ontario. The rest of the world will see both names, following Apple's approach after Trump previously renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney have both stated they will not change the name of the lake, which is over 400 years old. The lake spans across Canada and New York, with about 52% of its surface area in Canada.
