Trump's 'Lake America' Renaming Sparks Map War Between US and Canada

President Donald Trump has ordered a new name for Lake Ontario, renaming it 'Lake America' as part of his escalating trade war with Canada. According to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Trump reached out directly to Apple about the change, which was implemented on Apple Maps last week.

Google Maps followed suit over the weekend, citing Trump's order and its own policy of using names assigned by the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). Google stated that users in the US will see 'Lake America', while those in Canada will continue to see 'Lake Ontario', and others outside of these countries will see both names.

However, not all map providers have followed suit. MapQuest, owned by System1, has refused to change Lake Ontario's label and instead gave users the option to name it whatever they want through a separate online tool.

MapQuest's decision seems to be paying off, as the app reported a surge of downloads recently and topped the charts in both the US and Canada on Apple's App Store.
