Turkish Airlines Locks in 150 Boeing 737 MAX Jets Amid Engine Price Dispute
Turkish Airlines has finalized an order for up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX jets after resolving a dispute over engine prices. The carrier had considered switching to Airbus due to its disagreement with CFM International, but ultimately agreed on terms that included compromises on pricing and repair risks.
The deal includes a firm purchase of 100 737-8 jets with an option to buy a further 50 737 MAXs in the future. The total value of the order is estimated to be over $30 billion based on current prices and currency rates.
Turkish Airlines was also granted the right to substitute some of its ordered jets for the larger 737 MAX 10 variant, which has not yet entered full production but is expected to be certified soon. This move is seen as a way to future-proof the fleet and provide flexibility in case of changes in market demand.
