Twitch Streamers Can Now Opt Out of Training Amazon's Generative AI Models

Twitch, a live streaming platform owned by Amazon, has introduced an opt-out setting for its streamers to block their channel content from feeding Amazon's generative AI models. The toggle, which is labeled 'Training for Generative AI,' was added on August 12, 2026, and defaults to being switched on for every account, meaning all creators had been enrolled before the option to decline it existed.

The setting allows streamers to opt out of Amazon's generative AI content model training, which includes a channel's streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and pictures and text on a channel page. According to Twitch's support documentation, this training can help refine speech-to-text systems, improving captions on Twitch and across Amazon's other products.

Twitch executives addressed the backlash during a Patch Notes livestream on August 12, where Mike Minton, now the company's chief product officer, explained that if the setting was opt-in, 'nobody would opt in.' He also stated that he could not confirm what Amazon had already used for model training before the toggle existed.
