Ukraine-Based Management Consultant Shares Path from Chemistry to Multinational Leadership

Suriya Khabibullina's life took an unexpected turn after the Soviet Union collapsed. Originally trained in chemistry, she moved from academic science into multinational business, rising through various companies including Gillette, Procter & Gamble, and Japan Tobacco International.

Khabibullina shares her path to leadership, crediting her experience in chemistry with giving her a clear framework and algorithm for management. She notes that changing assignments three times was normal practice in multinational companies, allowing her to develop new skills and implement projects.

In terms of procurement, Khabibullina emphasizes the importance of moving from being a transaction administrator to becoming a strategic adviser for the organization. During Ukraine's full-scale invasion by Russia, she highlights the procurement team's role in supporting resilience and ensuring continuity of supply, despite challenges such as transport disruptions and food shortages.

Khabibullina praises Ukrainian President Zelenskyy's wartime communication, stating that he helped save Ukraine through his talent for organizing people and communicating. She analyzes his messages as a marketing person, noting their customization to different audiences and the consolidation of nations in support of Ukraine.
