UnitedHealth Earnings Surge Amid Membership Decline

UnitedHealth Group, Inc., the parent company of UnitedHealthcare, reported its quarterly earnings for the period ending June 30, 2026. The company's net earnings attributable to common shareholders rose to $5.484 billion in the second quarter, up from $3.406 billion in the same period last year.

The growth in earnings was driven by improved margins and lower medical costs as a percentage of revenue. Despite a decline in membership numbers, UnitedHealth Group's operating income increased to $7.991 billion from $5.150 billion in 2025.

UnitedHealth Group's revenue from premiums, products, services, and investment income totaled $112.032 billion for the quarter, up from $111.616 billion in 2025. The company's medical costs as a percentage of revenue decreased to 67.1% from 70.3% in the same period last year.
