UnitedHealth Group's (NYSE: UNH) second-quarter fiscal 2026 results exceeded expectations, with adjusted earnings per share (EPS) reaching $6.38, beating consensus estimates by nearly 30%. The company reported revenue of $112.03 billion for the quarter, with operating margins expanding to 7.1% due in part to operational streamlining and targeted AI deployment across Optum Health and Optum Rx.

CEO Stephen Hemsley attributed the performance to the successful embedding of AI automation into prior authorizations and routine workflows, which drove significant capital efficiency and accelerated the operational turnaround during the period. The earnings beat prompted leadership to raise its full-year 2026 EPS outlook to a range of $19.50 to $20.

UnitedHealth Group's stock price rose 1.26% to $401.60 on Wednesday following the announcement, with institutional interest supporting the advance. Patient Capital Management initiated a $181.9 million stake in the company, representing roughly 6% of its total portfolio and making it their fourth-largest holding.
