UnitedHealth Group (UNH) has shed its interest in WellMed's primary-care clinics in Florida to private equity firm TPG, according to a report from Bloomberg on September 9, 2026.

The move saw UNH shares fall as much as 3% to $388.58 in early trading, with the stock down 2.77% by 3pm UTC at $388.94, based on data from 24/7 Wall St.

Optum Health's chief executive Krista Nelson characterized the tie-up with TPG as a partnership aimed at bringing in fresh capital and expertise for strategic growth, while UNH chief financial officer Wayne DeVeydt described it as a local partnership rather than a capital raise.

The deal marks a repeat of a previous sale by UnitedHealth to TPG, which bought Optum UK from the company for $400m, generating funds for the United Health Foundation. This precedent suggests that more pieces of Optum Health may be shed in the future.
