Unusual Put Options Volume in Merck Raises Concerns Over Stock Value
Merck & Co., Inc. (MRK) stock has experienced a significant spike in price, up $14.66 to $149.83 (+10.85%) in midday trading on August 19.
The company recently released its Q2 earnings, showing strong revenue growth driven by its oncology drug portfolio, and announced success in a stage IV melanoma drug combination trial with Moderna (MRNA).
However, an unusually large volume of put options has traded at a much lower strike price, specifically over 7,000 put contracts at the $135.00 strike price, which is almost 10% below today's price.
This has led to speculation that investors may be betting on MRK stock falling in value or taking advantage of high put premiums.
