US-Cambodia Aviation Partnership Takes Flight with Major Boeing Deal

Cambodia and the US are strengthening their aviation partnership through various initiatives. A key part of this effort is Air Cambodia's major investment in Boeing aircraft, worth approximately $3.2 billion. The order includes 10 Boeing 737-8 jets with an option to purchase another 10 of the same type.

The Boeing 737-8 offers improved range and efficiency compared to older models. It can carry up to 178 passengers in a two-class layout and fly around 3,500 nautical miles while using about 20% less fuel.

Air Cambodia plans to use the new aircraft for fleet renewal and network growth. The airline currently operates a mix of Airbus A320-family aircraft and ATR 72 turboprops on routes across Southeast Asia, China, India, Japan, and beyond. CEO Dr. David Zhan has highlighted the benefits of this investment, which will support new direct services and create jobs in Cambodia.

The partnership also covers a proposed $100 million investment from the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to support Techo International Airport near Phnom Penh. The airport is one of the country's largest infrastructure projects and represents an opportunity for developing an air cargo and logistics hub.
