US Index Futures Rise as Gold Surges Past $4,100
US stock index futures rose in pre-market trading on Wednesday, August 5. The Nasdaq 100 futures increased by 0.22%, while S&P 500 futures surged 0.42%. Dow futures also climbed 0.87%.
In commodities, gold prices skyrocketed to $4,183, breaking through the $4,100 mark with a 2.6% surge. International oil prices rebounded slightly, with WTI crude rising 1.1% to around $75 and Brent crude increasing by about 1.8%, briefly breaching the $80 per barrel threshold.
Cryptocurrency prices also fluctuated, with Bitcoin (BTC) rising 0.4% intraday and breaking through $64,000. Ethereum (ETH), however, fell slightly to $1,966, while Binance Coin (BNB) rose 0.5%, briefly surpassing the $600 mark.
Some stocks experienced significant changes in pre-market trading. SpaceX's second-quarter revenue exceeded market expectations, but its capital expenditures on AI computing infrastructure sparked concerns, causing a more than 11% decline. AMD reported strong financial results, with both revenue and earnings per share exceeding market expectations, although its Q3 revenue guidance fell short of the most optimistic estimate.
On the other hand, Nvidia saw a rise of over 2% in pre-market trading after SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced the use of Nvidia technology for AI computing power. Circle's stock surged nearly 10% premarket despite missing Wall Street estimates for its second-quarter revenue.
