US Revokes Over 250,000 Visas Amid Crackdown on Asylum Claims
The US State Department has revoked over 250,000 visas since President Trump's second term began. This comes after previously revoking more than 175,000 visas in August.
The majority of the revoked visas were from foreign nationals who committed crimes such as assault, theft, and driving under the influence. Some specific examples include a person charged with felony kidnapping, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation of a minor, and another who was arrested for driving with heroin and a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit.
The State Department also revoked 2,300 visas in connection with birth tourism, where pregnant foreign nationals travel to the US to give birth so their child automatically receives citizenship. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau previously said that Americans are 'fed up with bogus asylum claims.'
