US Revokes Over 250,000 Visas Amid Crackdown on Immigration Abuses
The US State Department has revoked more than 250,000 visas issued to foreign nationals who have committed crimes or abused the immigration system.
This is a significant increase from August's announcement that over 175,000 visas had been revoked.
According to a State Department official, the majority of the revocations resulted from law enforcement encounters with foreign nationals for crimes such as assault, theft, and driving under the influence.
The revocations include those related to birth tourism, which allows pregnant foreign nationals to travel to the US to give birth and have their child automatically receive citizenship. Over 2,300 visas were revoked in connection with this practice.
