US Ryder Cup Team Introduces New Qualifying Criteria Based on Points Earned

The US team has introduced a new qualifying criteria for the Ryder Cup, which will be held in Ireland in 2027. The system is based entirely on points earned during the year leading up to the tournament.

Qualifying will start at The American Express and end with the BMW Championship, with the top six players in points automatically qualifying for the team. Jim Furyk will make six captain's picks after the season-ending Tour Championship.

The new system replaces the previous method of awarding points based on official money earned on the PGA Tour. This change aims to provide a fairer assessment of player performance, taking into account the significant increases in prize money and the contrast between signature events and regular tournaments.
