US Stock Market Indexes Rise on Inflation Data and Earnings Reports
The US stock market indexes rose on Wednesday after inflation data and earnings reports boosted investor confidence.
According to Reuters, consumer prices in the US increased slightly in July, reducing the likelihood of a rate hike by the Federal Reserve next month. As a result, traders now see a 55% chance that the Fed will leave interest rates unchanged in September, up from roughly even odds before the data.
Luke Rahbari, CEO of Equity Armor Investments, commented on the situation: 'These backwards-looking numbers kind of put the Fed in exactly the position they want to be. They don’t have to do anything. It’s the narrative they want, that we’re seeing some cooling, but there’s no collapse in the economy.'
The Nasdaq led the gains with a 0.64% increase, while the S&P 500 rose 0.33%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.21%. Nvidia and Micron Technology were among the top gainers, rising 2% and 4.4%, respectively.
The technology sector climbed 1.2%, driven by chipmakers such as Broadcom, which added 1.4%. CoreWeave soared 20% after beating second-quarter earnings estimates and increasing its annual capital spending forecast.
