The US stock market reached new heights on Tuesday as corporate profits surged and oil prices fell. The S&P 500 index climbed 1.8% to surpass its previous all-time high, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 907 points to set a new record. The Nasdaq composite jumped an impressive 2.6%, driven in part by strong earnings reports from companies like Palantir Technologies and Caterpillar.

Palantir's shares skyrocketed 29.5% after its CEO Alex Karp announced the company's revenue had soared 93% in what he called an 'otherworldly' quarter. Caterpillar reported quarterly profits and revenues that exceeded expectations, marking the first time it generated over $20 billion in sales within a single quarter.

The strong earnings reports from major players like Amazon and Microsoft have contributed to the market's upward trend, with S&P 500 companies projected to deliver earnings per share growth nearing 50% for the spring quarter. This follows a series of positive results, with corporate profits on the rise while stock prices have remained relatively stable over the past couple of months.

The drop in oil prices also contributed to the bullish sentiment in the market, with Brent crude declining 5.3% to $79.36 per barrel. This alleviated some of the uncertainty that had characterized the oil market, where prices had fluctuated between $72 and $102 recently due to concerns over the ongoing conflict with Iran and its impact on oil supply.
