US Stocks Rise as Dollar General Exceeds Earnings Expectations
The US stock market saw gains on Thursday, with the Dow Jones index rising by around 200 points.
The Dow traded up 0.39% to 53,673.57 while the NASDAQ climbed 1.53% to 26,530.37.
The S&P 500 also rose, gaining 0.79% to 7,736.71.
Among leading sectors, information technology shares jumped by 3.2%, but consumer staples stocks fell by 1.1%.
Dollar General reported better-than-expected second-quarter financial results and raised its FY26 guidance above estimates.
The company's quarterly earnings of $2.23 per share beat the analyst consensus estimate of $2.01 per share, while quarterly sales of $11.290 billion exceeded the estimated $11.197 billion.
Other notable movers included Propanc Biopharma Inc, which saw its shares surge 157% after announcing preclinical and early translational data for its lead candidate PRP in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
