US Stocks Rise Led by Tech and Consumer Services
US stocks closed higher on Monday due to gains in various sectors, including technology and consumer services.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.71%, with notable gainers including NVIDIA Corporation, which increased 2.29% or $5.08 to trade at $227.35, Amgen Inc, up 1.95% or $7.51 to end at $393.16, and Amazon.com Inc, which was up 1.87% or $4.74 to $258.45.
On the other hand, some stocks declined significantly, including Chevron Corp, down 2.79% or $5.84 to trade at $203.67, Coca-Cola Co, which fell 1.28% or $1.13 to end at $87.12, and Travelers Companies, down 0.93% or $3.49 to $371.13.
Among the top performers on the S&P 500 were Akamai Technologies Inc, up 12.33%, Moderna Inc, which was up 12.26%, and Intel Corporation, gaining 12.14%. The worst performers included Mohawk Industries Inc, down 7.00% to $117.27 in late trade, Marathon Petroleum Corp, losing 5.30% to settle at $402.38, and Valero Energy Corporation, which was down 4.84% to $393.27 at the close.
The NASDAQ Composite saw Greenland Mines Ltd rise by a significant 230.53% to $9.42, while SMX Security Matters Ord Shs Class A fell to an all-time low of 10.98 after declining 35.45%. The S&P 500 Implied Volatility Index was up 0.34%, and gold futures for December delivery were down 1.06% or $46.75 to $4,378.15 a troy ounce.
