US Stocks Send Mixed Signals Amid Reversal in Oil Prices
The US stock market opened with mixed signals on Wednesday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite held slightly above their previous close.
The Dow stood at 51,314.41, down 167.10 points or 0.32%, while the S&P 500 was at 7,685.22, up 1.29 points. The Nasdaq Composite gained 66.47 points or 0.25%.
The reversal in oil prices is a key reason for the market's mixed signals. West Texas Intermediate crude fell 2.2% to $90.71 a barrel, while Brent crude dropped over 1% to around $103.97.
Nvidia was among the strongest actively traded names, rising 1.11% to $231.40. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index also climbed 2.27%. However, healthcare stocks fell 1.05%, and Dow Jones oil and gas stocks dropped 0.93%.
