Van Halen Fan Demands to Speak to Gates After Java Applet Fiasco

A Microsoft support call from 2009 has been shared by veteran Raymond Chen. A user was building a Van Halen fan site using FrontPage and couldn't get a Java applet to work.

The caller, who had apparently consumed several adult beverages, demanded to speak to Bill Gates.

Chen's colleague staffed the FrontPage support line at the time and tried to help the user. However, the caller became increasingly frustrated and swore at the support representative.

The representative warned that any further swearing would end the call, but the caller continued to demand to speak to Gates, shouting 'You're not even a real f, ing fan of Van Halen!' and 'F, you! I wanna talk to Gates!'
