Vendors Start Charging for Agent Access, B2B Industry in Flux
The B2B software industry is undergoing significant changes as vendors like Salesforce, HubSpot, and Atlassian start charging for agent access. The estimated cost of this change can be substantial, with one estimate suggesting that it could reach $240,000 per year for some companies.
The SaaStr team recently received an estimate from their vendor 10K, which suggested that they would need to pay a significant amount for API access. In response, the team decided to install a tracker on their own API usage and found that many of the calls could be cut back. Their longer-term suggestion was to mirror their system of record into their own Postgres database, which would eliminate the need to make so many API calls.
This change is not just about cost savings; it's also about being prepared for a potential shift in the industry. With vendors starting to charge for agent access, companies may be forced to rethink their current stack and consider alternative solutions that offer more flexible pricing models.
