Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Experiences Runway Overrun at Munich Airport
A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 aircraft experienced a runway overrun at Munich Airport on August 15, causing significant damage to the plane and airport infrastructure.
The flight data recorders revealed that the left brake pedal was activated shortly after takeoff roll began, followed by subsequent braking inputs.
As a result of these braking inputs, the aircraft's airspeed stalled for approximately 18 seconds at around 168 knots (311 km/h), before accelerating again when the co-pilot manually increased engine thrust near the end of the runway.
The crew initiated rotation at 163 knots, 12 knots below the planned rotation speed of 175 knots, and the aircraft lifted off from the grass past the runway end, striking approach lights and suffering tail and main landing gear damage.
