Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 Overruns Runway in Munich Takeoff Incident

A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner suffered a serious incident during takeoff from Munich Airport on Saturday. The aircraft, operating as VN-A867, was supposed to fly to Hanoi but instead returned to its departure airport due to a technical issue, according to the airline.

Preliminary reports indicate that the plane rotated extremely late during takeoff and overran the runway by around 120 metres before becoming airborne. This caused the aircraft to suffer a tailstrike and tyre damage. The crew then received a tyre-pressure indication and decided to dump fuel before returning to Munich.

The Boeing 787 circled for over two hours to burn off excess fuel, and after taking off again, it made two low approaches to Runway 26R before landing safely. However, smoke was seen coming from the left main landing gear after the landing, and the aircraft became disabled on the runway.

The fire brigade was present at the scene, and passengers were evacuated using emergency slides. Vietnam Airlines stated that the flight crew followed all required procedures and landed safely at Munich Airport. The airline is coordinating with relevant authorities to inspect the aircraft.
