Vistra's Quiet Rise as AI Power Demand Booms
The AI power boom is driving massive growth in data center demand, and one company is quietly benefiting from this trend: Vistra. According to Goldman Sachs Research, U.S. data center power demand will double by 2027, creating opportunities for independent power producers like Vistra.
Vistra sells power directly into wholesale markets, allowing it to capitalize on growing electricity demand. The company has secured long-term power purchase agreements with major hyperscalers, including Amazon and Meta Platforms, which provides a stable source of revenue.
Vistra's extensive energy assets and flexibility in entering into PPAs make it an attractive partner for hyperscalers looking to secure reliable power sources. In fact, the company recently signed a 20-year PPA with Amazon Web Services for 1,200 megawatts of carbon-free power, and added another deal with Meta Platforms in January 2026.
The acquisition of Cogentrix Energy earlier this year will further expand Vistra's energy production capacity. Analysts project the company's earnings per share to be $10.56 in 2027 and $12.36 in 2028, making it an attractive investment opportunity for those looking to capitalize on the growing demand for electricity.
