Walmart Finally Opens Doors to Apple Pay and Google Pay

Walmart is finally embracing Apple Pay and Google Pay, marking a significant shift in its checkout strategy. The retail giant announced that it will begin rolling out Tap to Pay at select Walmart stores and Sams Club locations across the US on August 24, with plans to expand to more sites by the end of 2026.

This move is a departure from Walmart's previous stance on mobile wallets, where it had encouraged customers to use its own Walmart Pay system. However, it seems that convenience has taken precedence over keeping customers within its own payments environment.

The introduction of Tap to Pay could make it easier for customers already using Apple and Alphabet services elsewhere to checkout seamlessly. Additionally, Walmart plans to roll out this feature at fuel stations by mid-2027.
