Walmart Unleashes E-commerce and Fast Delivery Fury
Walmart (NYSE: WMT) showcased its aggressive market share gains at recent conferences, where it highlighted its e-commerce growth, fast delivery capabilities, and AI-driven shopping assistant.
The retail giant's U.S. president and CEO Dave Guggina participated in meetings and a fireside chat at the Goldman Sachs Global Retailing Conference on September 15. The next day, Manish Joneja, senior vice president of Walmart U.S. marketplace and WFS, appeared at the Piper Sandler Growth Frontiers Conference.
The company's e-commerce sales surged 23% globally, while U.S. comparable sales posted a 2.6% increase during the same reporting period. Fiscal second-quarter revenue climbed 5.9%, with operating income jumping 28.8%. Adjusted constant-currency operating income grew 17.4% year-over-year.
Walmart's fast delivery capabilities continued to expand, with sub-30-minute delivery now available in 38 U.S. markets. The company's store network serves as a last-mile fulfillment infrastructure for 80% of e-commerce orders and 100% of fast deliveries. This structural advantage is difficult for rivals to replicate.
The retailer also highlighted the success of its Sparky AI shopping assistant, which has linked to customers spending 40% more per order. Walmart's advertising arm, Walmart Connect, aims to compete for budgets across connected TV, social media, and shopping apps, with margins above 70%. The company's recent collaboration with Dunkin' is set to launch first across 150 in-store tenant locations.
