Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 26H2 will be released as a lightweight update this autumn. The update, which is expected to roll out around the end of September or early October 2026, will be available for PCs running version 25H2 or 24H2.

The size of the update depends on the version being run. For devices on 24H2 or 25H2, it will be an enablement package of roughly 174KB, which is just three-thousandths of one percent of the full update. This is because most of the code for 26H2 is already present on the PC, and only needs to be enabled.

However, PCs still running version 22H2 or 23H2 will receive a full feature update of close to 6.5GB. The update adds no new hardware requirements, so eligible PCs can carry over without changes.

The features in Windows 11 26H2 are mostly the same as those in 24H2 and 25H2, which means that most users will not see any significant changes at launch. However, one notable exception is the point-in-time restore feature, which is enabled by default on 26H2.
