Windows 11 26H2 Rolls Out with AI-Powered File Explorer Actions
Microsoft has begun rolling out Windows 11 version 26H2, also known as the Windows 11 2026 Update. This update is available to eligible PCs and started on September 29, 2026, as a small enablement package for devices running version 24H2 or 25H2.
The package activates new features that have already been released through monthly updates and requires only a single restart in most cases. Installing it resets the support clock, giving Home and Pro editions 24 months of updates, through October 2028, and Enterprise and Education editions 36 months, through October 2029.
One of the main features of this update is the addition of AI actions to File Explorer. Users can now edit supported images or summarize documents with these new tools. The Summarize action works on files stored in OneDrive and SharePoint, but requires a Microsoft 365 subscription and a Copilot license.
