Windows 11 Update Fails to Start or Produce Audio for Some Devices

Microsoft's September Windows 11 update has caused audio devices to malfunction on some PCs after restart, causing users to lose sound altogether. The issue primarily affects USB Audio Class 1.0 devices that don't require additional driver software for recognition by the computer.

The problem not only affects incoming audio but also microphones, disrupting conference calls and other voice-related activities. Device Manager may display an error message 'this device cannot start (Code 10)' for affected audio devices or drivers.

Microsoft has acknowledged the issue but does not have a permanent fix yet. A temporary workaround is to switch to two-channel audio mode, which may help resolve the problem temporarily.
