Windows' 32-Year-Old Placeholder Still Going Strong

A Windows feature that has been around since 1994 is still a permanent part of the operating system. The Format dialog box, created by Dave W. Plummer as a temporary solution, has survived for over three decades without an update.

The dialog box was originally designed to be a placeholder until a more elegant UI could be developed. However, it ended up being so functional and efficient that Microsoft never replaced it with something new.

The Format dialog box is still widely used today, despite its age. It has undergone some minor visual updates but remains largely unchanged from its original design.
