Windows Update Triggers Copilot Crashes in Windows 10

A recent Windows 10 update has been causing chaos for one user, who found that every time they clicked on a file, Copilot would automatically be triggered and start running in the background. This resulted in frequent crashes of File Explorer, with the logs incorrectly blaming Microsoft Edge as the culprit.

The issue was caused by an update called KB5126256, which was intended to prepare for Extended Security Updates (ESU). However, despite Microsoft's claims that it shouldn't have changed anything else, users are experiencing problems.

According to Reddit user 'tarikhyoga', the program would only crash File Explorer when triggered by Copilot, and not individual folders. When trying to diagnose the issue using Reliability Monitor, the logs showed that Microsoft Edge was responsible for the crashes, rather than Copilot.

However, further investigation revealed that the actual culprit was 'mscopilot_proxy.exe' with a faulting module of 'ShellEh6055x64.dll' from 4t Tray Minimizer. This app has been used by the user for years without any issues until the update.
